India Demands Evidence in Nijjar Killing: Indian Envoy States No Assistance in Probe without Canadian Proof

NEW DELHI: India has reportedly refused to assist Canadian investigators in the Hardeep Singh Nijjar killing case until Ottawa shares all the evidence it has gathered. According to a report by Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail, India’s High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, stated that New Delhi has not received any evidence linking it to Nijjar’s slaying. Verma emphasized the need for relevant and specific evidence as a precondition for cooperation.
He mentioned that India has not yet received a formal request from Ottawa to collaborate on the probe.
Nijjar, a pro-Khalistani terrorist, was killed in Vancouver on June 18 last year. Despite Canadian national security advisor Jody Thomas claiming an “evolution” in India’s position on the Nijjar probe, Verma’s statements suggest a lack of cooperation until concrete evidence is provided.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had previously alleged credible links between Nijjar’s assassination and Indian agents, but India has not initiated a probe into the Canadian case, unlike the investigation based on information shared by the US in a similar Khalistani-related plot.
